After distributing food on Saturday of every week, our volunteers, led by Father Lazarus Yassa, the Christ the Good Shepperd American Coptic Orthodox Church priest, reach out to our homeless brethren in the City of Long Beach to distribute meals and drinks. Father Lazarus shares a prayer with those who ask for a blessing, and our volunteers distribute Bibles upon request. The experience is spiritual, highlighting a blessed ending of a special day of service.
We experience firsthand the teaching that it is more blessed to give than to receive:
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work, we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’
Acts 20:32-35
The one who has mercy on the poor lends to God, And He will repay him according to his gift.
